This winter, Cinema in Concert brings one of the most iconic live-to-film experiences of all time back to the largest arenas in the Netherlands and Belgium: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in Concert. In this spectacular production, Peter Jackson’s motion picture masterpiece is shown in its entirety on a giant screen, while Howard Shore’s Academy Award-winning score is performed live by a symphony orchestra and choir.
Deze concertreeks markeert het 25-jarig jubileum van The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, met een bijzonder hoogtepunt op 19 december 2026 – de exacte datum waarop de film 25 jaar geleden in première ging. Het filmconcert wordt in december 2026 uitgevoerd door maar liefst 200 musici, waaronder het Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen, Brabant Koor, Souvenir KoorAcademie Tilburg, Kooracademie Breda en een solist in Rotterdam Ahoy – RTM Stage en Forest Nationaal, Brussel. Samen brengen zij Howard Shore’s epische, met een Academy® en Grammy® Award bekroonde soundtrack tot leven, perfect gesynchroniseerd met de film.
In April 2027, the production returns to the Netherlands, where the Residentie Orkest, together with the Nederlands Concertkoor and Nieuw Vocaal Amsterdam, will once again perform the music in all its glory at AFAS Live, Amsterdam.
The Fellowship of the Ring is widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made. The story follows Frodo and his journey with the Fellowship to destroy the One Ring and save Middle-earth from the dark power of Sauron. Presented with the complete motion picture on a giant screen and live orchestral accompaniment, this performance creates an immersive experience where the power of film and music come together.

Flanders Symphony Orchestra
The Flanders Symphony Orchestra has grown into a dynamic and versatile ensemble that places symphonic music at the heart of society. Founded in 1960 by Dirk Varendonck, who also served as its first conductor, the orchestra has built a rich artistic legacy over the decades. In 1986, it adopted the name “Nieuw Vlaams Orkest,” working with conductors such as Patrick Peire, Robert Groslot, and Fabrice Bollon. Following a major transformation in 1995, the orchestra took on its current name and continued its artistic development under the direction of David Angus, Etienne Siebens, Seikyo Kim, Jan Latham-Koenig, and Kristiina Poska. From January 2026 onwards, the orchestra will be led by Martijn Dendievel.
Deeply rooted in Flanders yet internationally minded, the orchestra combines strong local engagement with broad artistic ambitions. From intimate educational concerts in the neighbourhoods of Ghent and its own concert series in Ghent, Antwerp, and Bruges, to prestigious performances and innovative artistic projects on renowned concert stages at home and abroad, the orchestra continues to reach audiences of all generations.
The Flanders Symphony Orchestra is supported by the Flemish Government and the City of Ghent, and has been in residence at Muziekcentrum De Bijloke Ghent since 2017.
