This Christmas, Cinema in Concert brings back to the stage one of the most beloved Christmas films of all time: Home Alone in ConcertDuring this festive production, the entire film is screened on a large screen, while the music is performed by no fewer than 115 musicians from the Noordpool Orchestra and choir Nieuw Vocaal Amsterdam. They play the iconic music by five-time Academy Award® winner John Williams live, perfectly synchronized with the film.
Since the premiere in 1990, it grew Home Alone into a worldwide Christmas tradition. The film tells the hilarious and heartwarming story of eight-year-old Kevin McCallister, who is accidentally left home alone when his family leaves for the Christmas holidays. While Kevin enjoys his unexpected freedom, he must defend his home from two clumsy burglars. The result is a timeless family film full of humor, adventure and Christmas spirit.
An indispensable part of the film's success is the enchanting music by John Williams. His playful, moving, and festive score forms the musical heart of the film and is used during Home Alone in Concert Performed entirely live by the Noordpool Orchestra and choir Nieuw Vocaal Amsterdam. De 500 leerlingen van NVA zingen wekelijks in een van de 24 koren, ingedeeld op leeftijd en niveau. Tijdens de repetities werken zij aan repertoire uit vele landen en periodes, vaak voorzien van beweging of regie. Zo wordt er aan de hand van het repertoire veel aandacht besteed aan de ontwikkeling van de zangstem, het muzikale gehoor, solfège en acteren. Naast de wekelijkse repetities zijn er studieweekenden en uitwisselingen met koren uit heel Europa.
Zo doen leerlingen podiumervaring op, maken zij vrienden voor het leven en ontwikkelen zij zich tot zelfstandige mensen en musici.
Sinds 2016 is NVA de vaste kinderkoorpartner van Nationale Opera & Ballet, en van Cappella Amsterdam.
Conductor
Julian Bigg is a dual nationality British/Swedish Conductor, who studied conducting at The Royal Academy of Music in London.
A sought-after expert in live film-with-orchestra performances and one of the few conductors worldwide officially approved by both the John Williams Organization and the Walt Disney Company, Julian has conducted over 80 performances, including Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Shrek 2 (Europese première), Pirates of the Caribbean, Frozen, Love Actually, Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi, Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens, Home Alone en Psycho!Earlier this year, Julian conducted the European premiere of Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedibecoming the only conductor in Europe to have conducted all the available Star Wars-films heeft gedirigeerd.
