The Residentie Orchestra is the orchestra of, for, in, and from The Hague. Since its inaugural concert in 1904, the Residentie Orchestra has evolved into one of the renowned symphony orchestras in the Netherlands. The orchestra actively employs classical music to connect and stimulate all residents and visitors in The Hague, with the goal of creating an inclusive, inspiring, collaborative, and versatile living city. The Residentie Orchestra provides a top-quality musical experience and always seeks the relevance of music in a contemporary, youthful, and fresh manner.
Conductor
Dirk ridder Brossé, geboren in 1960 te Gent, België, is een veelzijdig componist en internationaal gerespecteerd dirigent. Hij studeerde aan de conservatoria van Gent en Brussel en specialiseerde zich in orkestdirectie in Maastricht, Wenen en Keulen, waar hij zijn diploma behaalde. Momenteel is hij docent compositie en orkestdirectie aan de Hogeschool Gent.
Brossé heeft de belangrijkste Belgische orkesten gedirigeerd en is wereldwijd actief met toporkesten zoals het London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic en het Philharmonic Orchestra of Shanghai. Als vruchtbaar componist schreef hij ongeveer 400 werken, waaronder concerten, oratoria, liederen en symfonieën. Zijn werken worden wereldwijd uitgevoerd en zijn in meer dan 40 landen opgenomen. Enkele van zijn bekendste composities zijn “La Soledad de América Latina” en “Haiku Cycle 1”, geschreven voor Jessye Norman.
Daarnaast componeert Brossé muziek voor theater en film, waaronder de soundtrack voor “Daens”, genomineerd voor een Academy Award in 1993. Sinds 2010 is hij Music Director en chef-dirigent van het Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. Hij heeft meer dan 100 cd’s opgenomen en samen met prominente artiesten gewerkt.
Brossé werd geëerd als Cultureel Ambassadeur van Vlaanderen en ontving diverse onderscheidingen, waaronder de titel van ridder en Commandeur in de Orde van Leopold. Zijn bijdrage aan de muziekwereld wordt wereldwijd erkend.
