Film with live orchestra played by

Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra

The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra was born in the cinema: it was founded in 1918 by musicians who earned their living accompanying films in Rotterdam theaters. With a lot of energy, courage, and ambition, the orchestra grew into one of the most prominent in Europe. Nowadays, the Rotterdam Philharmonic reaches a global audience with online concerts and tours to the most famous halls, with the De Doelen in Rotterdam as its home base. Proud of its origins, the orchestra has always continued to play music for films: from classics with Charlie Chaplin to arthouse films during the International Film Festival Rotterdam and blockbusters like Star Wars and Harry Potter.

Conductor Ben Palmer

Ben Palmer is Chief Conductor of the Deutsche Philharmonie Merck in Darmstadt (2017-24) and Babylon Orchester Berlin, Principal Conductor of the Orchestra da Camera di Pordenone, and Founder and Artistic Director of Covent Garden Sinfonia.

Personally authorised by John Williams to conduct his film scores in concert, and acclaimed by Hans Zimmer as “a masterclass in conducting”, Ben Palmer is one of the world’s most sought-after specialists in conducting live to picture. With a repertoire of more than 50 films, ranging from fiendishly difficult silent movies such as Metropolis and Modern Times to the Star Wars films and Harry Potter, he appears regularly at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, KKL Luzern and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam.
